Host in Host Supramolecular Core-Shell Type Systems Based on Giant Ring-Shaped Polyoxometalates

Clement Falaise et al.

Summary: In this study, the chaotropic effect of reduced molybdate ions in acidified aqueous solution was shown to significantly amplify weak supramolecular interactions, leading to the formation of large aggregates of molybdenum-blue oligomeric species and gamma-cyclodextrin. Time-resolved Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS) analysis revealed the rapid formation of nanoscopic {Mo-154}-based host-guest species, while X-ray diffraction analysis showed the formation of an unprecedented three-component well-ordered core-shell-like motif. This work provides insights into self-assembly processes and offers new opportunities for designing complex multicomponent materials through non-covalent chemistry simplicity.

Redox-Responsive Host-Guest Association between γ-Cyclodextrin and Mixed-Metal Keggin-Type Polyoxometalates

Sa Yao et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the interaction strength between gamma-CD and oxidized or one-electron reduced POMs decreases as the global ionic charge of the POM unit increases. The addition/removal of one electron to POMs, particularly those with molybdenum and vanadium addenda, allows for tuning the host-guest association strength, offering a new avenue for the design of smart materials through redox stimuli.

Construction of isostructural hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks: limitations and possibilities of pore expansion

Yuto Suzuki et al.

Summary: The study presents a rule-of-thumb for developing isostructural hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks by considering three important structural factors. The construction and characterization of new HOFs are demonstrated, and their properties are compared with other isostructural frameworks. Molecular dynamics simulation is shown to be effective in evaluating the stability of isostructural HOFs, which can accelerate the development of various molecular porous materials.

Hofmeister effect in the Keggin-type polyoxotungstate series

Sa Yao et al.

Summary: By varying the charge density of Keggin-type polyoxotungstate anions, the affinity of polyoxometalates (POMs) to gamma-cyclodextrin (γ-CD) was found to be directly correlated, providing insights into their interactions and behavior within supramolecular aggregates.
