Strategic Damping Placement in Viscoelastic Bandgap Structures: Dissecting the Metadamping Phenomenon in Multiresonator Metamaterials

A. Aladwani et al.

Summary: The study investigated viscoelastic metadamping in one-dimensional multibandgap metamaterials, finding that strategic damping placement in individual resonators plays a key role in shaping intermediate dispersion branches and dictating the primary and secondary frequency regions of interest, where attenuation is most required.

Wave propagation in a dual-periodic elastic metamaterial with multiple resonators

Zhengwei Li et al.

Summary: This paper systematically studied the general mechanism of implementing multiple local resonators into dual-periodic metamaterial cells and proposed a new elastic metamaterial model featuring negative effective mass and/or modulus. The model has great flexibility to achieve single or double negativity in different frequency ranges and can generate wide band gaps and negative phase velocity positions. Numerical validation of typical examples demonstrated wave attenuation and backward wave propagation phenomena, showcasing the versatility of the model.

Multi-resonator coupled metamaterials for broadband vibration suppression

Pengcheng Zhao et al.

Summary: In this study, multi-resonator coupled metamaterials (MRCMs) with local resonators were proposed to obtain multiple and wide band gaps. By analyzing the effects of structural parameters on the distributions of the band gaps, it was verified that MRCMs have superior vibration suppression capability.

Dispersion properties and dynamics of ladder-like meta-chains

Setare Hajarolasvadi et al.

Summary: The research idealizes systems as sets of spring-mass structures and achieves two different configurations by varying coupling frequencies. The fully-coupled system exhibits a dual nature, while the partially-coupled system shows more complex behavior. The study also presents two example devices for wave propagation control using meta-chain configurations.

Broadband and Intense Sound Transmission Loss by a Coupled-Resonance Acoustic Metamaterial

David Roca et al.

Summary: Acoustic metamaterials have opened up new possibilities for sound transmission control. While single local resonator-based metamaterials produce narrow-band attenuation peaks, using multiple local resonators results in narrow peaks separated by passbands. The proposed concept in this study achieves subwavelength sound transmission loss through fully coupled antiresonances in a single band gap, providing a broadband attenuation range.
