Alterations in resting-state global brain connectivity in bipolar I disorder patients with prior suicide attempt

Xiaofang Cheng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the intrinsic brain networks of BD-I patients with and without suicide attempt using rs-fMRI, and found that abnormal connectivity patterns in emotion-encoding circuits are associated with the increasing risk of vulnerability to suicide attempt in BD patients. Global dysconnectivity across these emotion-encoding circuits might serve as potential biomarkers for classification of suicide attempt in BD patients.

Summary: This study found genetic overlap between CRP levels and individual depressive symptoms, and IL-6 signaling could potentially be associated with suicidality. BMI may be causally associated with four other depressive symptoms.

Altered dynamic functional connectivity across mood states in bipolar disorder

Min Liu et al.

Summary: This study examined the differences in large-scale brain dynamic functional connectivity between depressive and euthymic states in patients with bipolar disorder using rsfMRI data. The findings suggest that differences in connectivity within and between DMN and SMN networks can help distinguish between mood states in bipolar patients. Abnormal connectivity in the FST circuit may be a distinguishing feature of euthymic BD patients compared to healthy controls.

Predictive inflammatory biomarkers for change in suicidal ideation in major depressive disorder and panic disorder: A 12-week follow-up study

Kwan Woo Choi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the associations between serum inflammatory cytokine levels and suicidality in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) and panic disorder (PD). Results suggest that MDD and PD patients may have significantly higher levels of inflammatory markers compared to healthy controls. Furthermore, higher baseline levels of TNF-alpha in MDD patients were found to be a significant predictor of changes in suicide ideation intensity.

Temporal dynamics alterations of spontaneous neuronal activity in anterior cingulate cortex predict suicidal risk in bipolar II patients

Shui Tian et al.

Summary: In individuals with bipolar disorder type II during a major depressive episode, suicidal attempters showed an increase in brain activity and temporal dynamics in the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), which positively correlated with suicidal risk. The study suggested that abnormal static amplitude and temporal variability of neuronal activity may influence suicidal behavior in BD-II patients, where temporal variability was found to be more sensitive than static amplitude in reflecting diathesis for suicide. Dynamics of brain activity could be valuable in developing neuromarkers for suicide prevention.

Abnormal transitions of dynamic functional connectivity states in bipolar disorder: A whole-brain resting-state fMRI study

Summary: This study identified aberrant whole-brain dynamic functional connectivity patterns in bipolar disorder patients, showing increased transitions between specific dFC states related to high-level cognitive networks and low-level sensory networks compared to healthy controls. This finding could improve our understanding of the neuropathological mechanism of bipolar disorder.

Altered static and dynamic functional network connectivity in temporal lobe epilepsy with different disease duration and their relationships with attention

Xiulin Liang et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate altered patterns of static and dynamic functional network connectivity in temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) patients with different disease durations. The results showed that TLE patients in the early stage of the disease exhibited increased static and dynamic functional network connectivity, while these changes gradually stabilized as the disease progressed, with no significant differences observed in patients with longer disease durations.

Dynamic analysis on simultaneous iEEG-MEG data via hidden Markov model

Siqi Zhang et al.

Summary: This study utilized simultaneous resting iEEG and MEG data to demonstrate a correlation between iEEG contacts and HMM states, allowing for the classification of iEEG electrodes into functional clusters. Through comparing functional correlations and spatial proximity of the electrodes, it was concluded that there is a relationship between group functional states and electrode associations.
