Ozone compatibility with polymer nanofiltration membranes

Sara Ouali et al.

Summary: In this study, the resistance of three commercial polymer nanofiltration membranes to ozone was investigated, revealing a decrease in pure water permeability for NP10 membrane and a dramatic increase for thin-film composite polyamide membranes. The polyethersulfone matrix showed good resistance to ozone, while the polyvinylpyrrolidone additive was substantially oxidized. The active layers of the NF90 and NF270 membranes were severely damaged after ozonation, leading to a sharp increase in permeability.

Glass fiber-epoxy interactions in the presence of silane: A molecular dynamics study

Sanjib C. Chowdhury et al.

Summary: In this study, the interaction between epoxy resin and glass fiber in the presence of monolayer glycidoxypropyl-trimethoxy silane was investigated through molecular dynamics simulations. The presence of silane introduced covalent bonding interactions in the fiber-epoxy interphase, significantly enhancing composite strength and energy absorption capability. The simulation results suggest that a silane number density of 1-2 nm(-2) is optimal for achieving high strength and energy absorption in the composite system studied.

Enhanced interfacial properties of carbon fiber/epoxy composites by coating carbon nanotubes onto carbon fiber surface by one-step dipping method

Shu Xiong et al.

Summary: A multi-scale reinforcement material of carbon fiber/carbon nanotubes (CF/CNTs) was prepared using a one-step dipping method, with significant improvements in wettability, chemical activity, and tensile strength of the modified CFs. The synergistic effect of the silane coupling agent and CNTs enhanced the interfacial properties of the composite material. The bridging effect of CNTs as an interfacial reinforcing mechanism was proposed, showing promising potential for surface modification and interfacial enhancement of CF materials.

Co-deposition of pyrogallol/polyethyleneimine on polymer membranes for highly efficient treatment of oil-in-water emulsion

Chengjiang Zuo et al.

Summary: The bio-inspired biomimetic hydrophilic coating design strategy proposed in this work successfully converted the surface wettability of PVDF membrane from hydrophobic to superhydrophilic, with the membrane deposited with a PG/PEI mass ratio of 1:1 exhibiting the best hydrophilicity and water permeation flux. The PVDF-PG/PEI-0.2/0.2 membrane achieved the highest flux of 1053 L·m-2·h-1 and oil rejection of 98.3% when treating toluene-in-water emulsion. The high reusability of the modified PVDF membrane makes the proposed strategy significant for hydrophilic modification of polymer membranes.
