Cytokinin drives assembly of the phyllosphere microbiome and promotes disease resistance through structural and chemical cues

Rupali Gupta et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the plant hormone CK plays a crucial role in the assembly of the plant microbiome, increasing richness and promoting the presence of Firmicutes. CK-mediated immunity partially depends on the microbial community, and bacilli isolated from CK-rich plant genotypes induce plant immunity and enhance disease resistance. The leaf microstructure derived from CK-rich plant genotypes supports the growth of bacilli in a biomimetic system, indicating that CK can promote the growth and biofilm formation of immune-inducing bacilli isolates.

Anthocyanins Are Key Regulators of Drought Stress Tolerance in Tobacco

Valerio Cirillo et al.

Summary: Accumulation of anthocyanins in plants can protect them against excessive sunlight and control water loss, ultimately enhancing drought tolerance. Breeding programs and understanding physiological mechanisms are crucial for plants to cope with climate change and water scarcity.

Prunus Hexokinase 3 genes alter primary C-metabolism and promote drought and salt stress tolerance in Arabidopsis transgenic plants

Jorge Perez-Diaz et al.

Summary: Hexokinases (HXKs) and fructokinases (FRKs) are the only two families of enzymes in plants identified to phosphorylate Glucose (Glc) and Fructose (Fru). HXKs have diverse functions in plants, including anther dehiscence, stomatal closure, programmed cell death, response to oxidative stress and pathogen infection. The induction of HXK3 gene in Prunus rootstocks under hypoxia conditions enhances tolerance to salt and drought stress, as shown by transcriptome and metabolomics analysis.
