Hydroxyapatite Coatings on Calcite Powder for the Removal of Heavy Metals from Contaminated Water

Summary: This study investigates the application of hydroxyapatite-coated calcite particles for the removal of Zn and Cu from contaminated water. The results show that the HAP-coated calcite particles exhibit high efficiency in removing Zn and Cu from acidic solutions, with a high removal capacity. Various mechanisms including surface complexation, ion exchange, and precipitation of new metal-containing phases contribute to the sorption of Zn and Cu onto HAP.
