Sustaining Robust Cavities with Slippery Liquid-Liquid Interfaces

Suwan Zhu et al.

Summary: In this study, it is found that the infusion of a textured sphere with a smooth, slippery liquid layer in a liquid can more easily create and sustain a stable gas cavity compared to a dry solid sphere. The early lamella dynamics during water entry of spheres and drops impact on planes are unified with a key parameter of curvature ratio. The phenomenon of prone to cavity formation on a slippery surface is successfully explained from the perspective of wetting transition.

Pancake Jumping of Sessile Droplets

Chenlu Qian et al.

Summary: This study reports the rapid jumping of sessile droplets, even cold droplets, in a pancake shape using engineered superhydrophobic magnetically responsive blades arrays. This largely unexplored droplet behavior, termed as pancake jumping, exhibits advantages such as short interaction time and high energy conversion efficiency. The critical conditions for the occurrence of this new phenomenon are also identified. This work provides a new toolkit for the controlled and active steering of droplets for various applications.

Polymer-Assisted Space-Confined Strategy for the Foot-Scale Synthesis of Flexible Metal-Organic Framework-Based Composite Films

Kuo Yuan et al.

Summary: By developing a polymer-assisted space-confined strategy, the largest freestanding MOF-based film with excellent mechanical properties and conductivity was successfully synthesized. This approach could be extended to prepare composite films of other MOFs, coordination polymers (CPs), and even inorganic materials, opening up possibilities for designing and large-scale synthesis of various composite films for practical applications.

The contact angle of an evaporating droplet of a binary solution on a super wetting surface

Mengmeng Wu et al.

Summary: Recent experiments have shown that the dynamics of the contact angle of a droplet of a binary solution evaporating on a super wetting surface can be quite complex, with the angle typically decreasing slightly, then increasing, and finally decreasing again. Under certain conditions, the contact angle may remain constant for a period of time during evaporation. This theory explains the experimental results reported previously.
