Topology and complexity of the hydrogen bond network in classical models of water

Fausto Martelli

Summary: This study compares 11 popular non polarizable classical water models against their hydrogen bond network, introducing a network complexity index to quantify the deviation of network topology from the ground state. The study also establishes a link between the dynamical properties of different water models and the underlying topology of the hydrogen bond network.

Enhancement and maximum in the isobaric specific-heat capacity measurements of deeply supercooled water using ultrafast calorimetry

Harshad Pathak et al.

Summary: Through ultrafast calorimetry, it was found that the isobaric specific heat of water sharply increased at around 228 K and reached a maximum at 229 K, similar to the maxima of the isothermal compressibility and correlation length.

Structural and topological changes across the liquid-liquid transition in water

Riccardo Foffi et al.

Summary: Recent research has shown that the TIP4P/Ice water model can be studied numerically at and below its liquid-liquid critical temperature. Through simulations along a subcritical isotherm, it was found that structural changes taking place across the liquid-liquid transition are influenced by the topological properties of the H-bond network. Specifically, the high-density liquid structure originates from the folding back of long rings, bringing pairs of molecules separated by several hydrogen-bonds close by in space.

Relationship between Hydrogen-Bonding Motifs and the 1b1 Splitting in the X-ray Emission Spectrum of Liquid Water

Vinicius Wilian D. Cruzeiro et al.

Summary: The splitting of the 1b(1) peak in liquid water has been a subject of intense research, with a novel theoretical/computational approach combining simulations and calculations predicting this split. The analysis shows that multiple hydrogen-bonding motifs contribute to the XE line shape in liquid water, indicating that the split of the 1b(1) peak cannot be attributed to just two specific structural arrangements.

Vapor-liquid equilibrium of water with the MB-pol many-body potential

Maria Carolina Muniz et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the performance of the MB-pol model in properties related to vapor-liquid coexistence and interfacial behavior, showing good agreement with experimental data even at high temperatures near the critical point. The chemical accuracy and transferability of the MB-pol model were also confirmed in this research.

Nuclear quantum effects on the thermodynamic, structural, and dynamical properties of water

Ali Eltareb et al.

Summary: PIMD and RPMD simulations were used to study the properties of water and heavy water, revealing limitations in replicating the observed fluctuations in properties under supercooled conditions. Comparison with classical MD simulations showed minor differences in most properties, with exceptions in C-P(T), D(T), and structural properties.
