Sequential Electron Transfer in a BODIPY-Aluminum(III) Porphyrin-C60 Triad Studied by Transient EPR Spectroscopy

Art van der Est et al.

Summary: Spin-polarized transient EPR spectra of an aluminum(III) porphyrin triad with sequential electron transfer steps leading to charge separation between BDP-TPA(2) and C-60 were reported. The spectra showed opposite net polarizations attributed to singlet-triplet mixing during the lifetime of the initial radical pair. It is suggested that hole transfer is more likely to be the first step due to larger reorganization energy and electronic coupling.

Spin-Orbit Charge-Transfer Intersystem Crossing of Compact Naphthalenediimide-Carbazole Electron-Donor-Acceptor Triads

Mushraf Hussain et al.

Summary: Electron donor-acceptor triads based on carbazole and naphthalenediimide were prepared to study spin-orbit charge-transfer intersystem crossing. By varying the molecular conformation and electron-donating ability of the carbazole moieties, different charge-transfer absorption bands were observed, with thermal activated delayed fluorescence observed in specific configurations.

Photogenerated Spin-Correlated Radical Pairs: From Photosynthetic Energy Transduction to Quantum Information Science

Samantha M. Harvey et al.

Summary: Research has shown that spin-polarized radical pair spectra are observed in chemical and photosynthetic systems when the distance between the two radicals is restricted, leading to the formation of spin-correlated radical pairs. These spin-correlated radical pairs can serve as spin qubit pairs, allowing for manipulation of spin dynamics to study various quantum phenomena in the field of quantum information science.

Electron spin dynamics in excited state photochemistry: recent development in the study of intersystem crossing and charge transfer in organic compounds

Muhammad Imran et al.

Summary: This article summarizes the recent developments of electron spin dynamics in organic molecular systems, focusing on processes such as electron-spin selective intersystem crossing, charge separation, and charge recombination. The study found that electron spin polarization is highly dependent on molecular structure and geometry, and raises unanswered questions that may inspire further theoretical investigations. The examples demonstrate the importance of studying electron spin dynamics for fundamental photochemistry and for designing efficient organic molecular materials for various applications.

Insight into the drastically different triplet lifetimes of BODIPY obtained by optical/magnetic spectroscopy and theoretical computations

Zhijia Wang et al.

Summary: The study reveals significant variations in the triplet state lifetimes of different BODIPY derivatives, with short-lived derivatives showing ESP inversion phenomenon and fast decay contributing to the short lifetime. Additionally, the heavy atom effect has a more pronounced impact on the triplet state lifetimes in lower energy T-1 states.
