Alkane Activation and Oxidation on Late-Transition-Metal Oxides: Challenges and Opportunities

Rachel Martin et al.

Summary: Late-transition-metal oxides have shown potential as catalysts for converting light alkanes into high-value products through alkane C-H activation. Research on PdO(101), RuO2(110), and IrO2(110) surfaces has revealed that chemically adsorbed alkane sigma-complexes play a crucial role in initiating C-H activation. Understanding the relationship between surface structure and alkane C-H activity is essential for enhancing selectivity in alkane oxidation.

A Highly Selective Metal-Free Boron-Based Catalyst for Oxidative Dehydrogenation of Ethylbenzene

Yue-Ran Wang et al.

Summary: The metal-free boron-based catalyst of boron phosphate and boron nitride (BPO4/BN) showed high activity and selectivity in the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene to styrene, achieving a styrene selectivity of 95.1% at a 27.7% ethylbenzene conversion level. The tetra-coordinated boron species of BPO4 and a synergistic effect between BPO4 and BN were speculated to significantly improve the catalytic performance of the BPO4/BN catalyst, surpassing the individual performance of BPO4 and BN catalysts.

Cooperative Sites in Fully Exposed Pd Clusters for Low-Temperature Direct Dehydrogenation Reaction

Linlin Wang et al.

Summary: Direct dehydrogenation of alkanes poses a significant challenge in activating C-H bonds at low temperatures. This study reports fully exposed Pd clusters on a hybrid nanodiamond-graphene support for efficient dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene to styrene, demonstrating superior catalytic performance and stability compared to previous catalysts. The synergetic interaction between adjacent Pd atoms in each cluster enables effective activation of C-H bonds on ethyl, leading to higher activity than typical Pd single atom and Pd nanoparticle catalysts.
