On the limits of quasi-static theory in plasmonic nanostructures

Giulia Crotti et al.

Summary: By investigating the limits of the quasi-static theory (QST) validity range for gold nanostructures freestanding in air, comparing the errors between QST predictions and exact results, a non-trivial relationship between the accuracy of QST and the size of the scatterer is revealed, showing a strong dependence on the excitation conditions for QST accuracy.

Self-Assemblies of Fe3O4Nanocrystals: Toward Nanoscale Precision of Photothermal Effects in the Tumor Microenvironment

Alba Nicolas-Boluda et al.

Summary: Fe(3)O(4) nanocrystals self-assemble into colloidosomes and supraballs, which exhibit different interactions within the tumor microenvironment compared to their individual building blocks. These hybrid self-assemblies target distinct compartments in the tumor microenvironment, leading to local photothermal damages that are not observed with isolated nanocrystals.

Plasmonic control of drug release efficiency in agarose gel loaded with gold nanoparticle assemblies

Luca Moretti et al.

Summary: Plasmonic nanoparticles are used to enhance drug release through controlling their assembly in a hybrid hydrogel system. By surface functionalization, the degree of assembly can be tuned to achieve faster drug release. This study paves the way for a new paradigm of nanoplasmonic control over drug release.

Solar steam generation on scalable ultrathin thermoplasmonic TiN nanocavity arrays

Luca Mascaretti et al.

Summary: This study presents a scalable fabrication method for ultrathin plasmonic titanium nitride (TiN) nanocavity arrays, which exhibit 90% broadband solar light absorption within a sub-μm thickness. The TiN nanocavities show a fast non-linear increase in performance with increasing light intensity, reaching high evaporation rates and thermal efficiency under high solar irradiation conditions.

Water Dispersive Suprastructures: An Organizational Impact on Nanomechanical Properties

Illia Dobryden et al.

Summary: The nanomechanical properties of two suprastructures of self-assembled 9.6 nm Fe3O4 hydrophobic nanocrystals dispersed in water were investigated, revealing their nanoheater characteristics and self-assembling behavior post internalization in cancer cells. The study highlights the importance of understanding the nanomechanics of such suprastructures.
