Coupled Flow/Geomechanics Modeling of Interfracture Water Injection To Enhance Oil Recovery in Tight Reservoirs

Yongzan Liu et al.

Summary: Unconventional tight reservoirs with low permeability and low porosity have been challenging to develop, but techniques such as hydraulic fracturing and water injection can improve hydrocarbon recovery. This study analyzes the feasibility and efficiency of interfracture water injection in enhancing oil recovery in tight oil reservoirs through a coupled flow/geomechanics model. Results show that interfracture water injection can be a promising EOR technique for tight oil reservoirs.

Numerical simulation to determine the fracture aperture in a typical basin of China

Jingshou Liu et al.

Summary: Fracture aperture uncertainty in reservoir modeling is attributed to challenges in quantifying aperture accurately and limited understanding of its controlling factors, making theoretical evaluation crucial. Combination of physical experiments and numerical simulations is effective in determining fracture apertures in underground reservoir conditions. Vertical distribution of in situ stress plays a significant role in determining average fracture aperture in rocks at different depths.

Characterization, controlling factors and evolution of fracture effectiveness in shale oil reservoirs

Lei Gong et al.

Summary: Fracture effectiveness plays a crucial role in shale oil exploration. This study evaluated the fracture effectiveness in the Cretaceous Qing-1 Member shale oil reservoir in Gulong Sag, China, and identified structural fractures as the most significant factor. Structural inversion, abnormal high pressure, and dissolution were found to have the least impact on fracture effectiveness.
