Experimental Study of Microgel Conformance-Control Treatment for a Polymer-Flooding Reservoir Containing Superpermeable Channels

Yang Zhao et al.

Summary: Polymer flooding is commonly used in oil recovery, but its effectiveness is reduced when channels are present in a reservoir. This study showed that injecting microgels to shut off channels can significantly improve polymer-flooding efficiency and enhance oil recovery, especially in reservoirs with high-permeability channels.

Conformance control study of preformed particle gels (PPGs) in mature waterflooded reservoirs: numerical and experimental investigations

Amir Farasat et al.

Summary: In this study, a new mathematical transport model of PPG injection in mature waterflooded reservoirs was developed and validated by predicting pressure drop changes during 1D injection experiments. The sensitivity analysis showed that a higher recovery increment can be achieved by increasing the reservoir permeability constrast and using an appropriate PPG-to-pore size ratio. The study also found that a PPG concentration of 1750 ppm resulted in significant entrapment in the porous medium.

Enhancing Heavy-Oil Recovery Efficiency by Combining Low-Salinity-Water and Polymer Flooding

Yang Zhao et al.

Summary: The combination of low-salinity water and polymer flooding has been proposed as a method to enhance heavy-oil recovery on the Alaska North Slope. The synergy between LSW and polymer flooding improves recovery rates, with the low-salinity effect contributing to increased oil extraction efficiency.
