Fetal weight projection model to define growth velocity and validation against pregnancy outcome in a cohort of serially scanned pregnancies

O. Hugh et al.

Summary: This study developed and tested a model for defining normal limits of fetal growth velocity specific to the fetal weight measurement interval, which is associated with perinatal outcomes independently. Results showed that normal growth velocity is protective against adverse outcomes, while slow growth is associated with higher risks, indicating its importance for antenatal surveillance.

Customized GROW vs INTERGROWTH-21st birthweight standards to identify small for gestational age associated perinatal outcomes at term

Emily Fay et al.

Summary: This study assesses the performance of two international birthweight standards in identifying perinatal morbidity and mortality indicators associated with small for gestational age infants at term. The results show that compared to INTERGROWTH-21st, GROW identifies more small for gestational age infants with adverse outcomes.

Perinatal outcome of appropriate-weight fetuses with decelerating growth

Christos Chatzakis et al.

Summary: The study found that AGA fetuses crossing >50 EFW centiles between the second and third trimester are at increased risk of adverse perinatal outcomes, suggesting that they should be followed up as typical FGR cases.

Reduction of stillbirths in England from 2008 to 2017 according to uptake of the Growth Assessment Protocol: 10-year population-based cohort study

O. Hugh et al.

Summary: The implementation of the Growth Assessment Protocol (GAP) in maternity units in England led to a significant reduction in stillbirth rates, especially in units that fully adopted the protocol. Higher detection rates of small-for-gestational age (SGA) fetuses were associated with a lower stillbirth rate, suggesting a causal relationship between antenatal detection of SGA and the decrease in stillbirth rates.

Customized birth-weight centiles and placenta-related fetal growth restriction

N. Melamed et al.

Summary: This study compared the diagnostic accuracy of small-for-gestational age (SGA) at birth, defined according to customized vs population-based charts, for associated abnormal placental pathology. The results suggest that customized birth-weight centiles may be superior to population-based birth-weight centiles in detecting FGR that is due to underlying placental disease.

F. Joyce Cowan et al.

Summary: The introduction of Perinatal Institute's Growth Assessment Protocol (GAP) in the Counties Manukau Health region of South Auckland, New Zealand, was associated with a nearly five-fold increase in the antenatal detection of small for gestational age (SGA) fetuses without increasing obstetric interventions for SGA.

International versus national growth charts for identifying small and large-for-gestational age newborns: A population-based study in 15 European countries

Alice Hocquette et al.

Summary: The study compared perinatal mortality rates for small and large-for-gestational-age infants in Europe according to international and national growth charts. The findings suggest that using international charts in Europe could lead to growth restricted infants being reclassified as normal growth and infants with low mortality risks being classified as excessive growth.
