Summary: This study found that the prevalence of malnutrition in systemic sclerosis (SSc) patients is lower than expected for a chronic autoimmune disease with gastrointestinal involvement, but slightly higher when using GLIM criteria compared to ESPEN criteria. In SSc patients meeting GLIM criteria for malnutrition, disease activity and severity were significantly higher.

Malnutrition according to GLIM criteria in stable renal transplant recipients: Reduced muscle mass as predominant phenotypic criterion

K. Boslooper-Meulenbelt et al.

Summary: Malnutrition is present in one in 7 stable renal transplant recipients, with reduced muscle mass as the predominant phenotypic criterion. Assessment of nutritional status, especially muscle status, is crucial to prevent undetected and untreated malnutrition in renal transplant recipients. Further investigation is needed to determine the diagnostic value of 24-hour urinary creatinine excretion rate in this context.

Susumu Hirose et al.

Summary: Using the GLIM criteria and GNRI, it was found that 42.4% and 46.5% of elderly patients with heart failure were malnourished, respectively. Malnutrition was associated with a higher mortality rate and showed independent prognostic value. The GLIM criteria showed significant improvement in prognostic predictive ability compared to GNRI.

Summary: This study developed calf circumference (CC) cutoff points and found a strong correlation between CC and appendicular lean mass in a diverse NHANES population sample. Significant differences in mean CC were observed across sex, ethnic, self-reported race, and BMI groups. Adjusting CC for adiposity using BMI revealed specific cutoff values for low CC and supported the use of BMI-adjusted CC values for participants outside the normal-weight BMI range.
