Iron Catalyzed Isomerization of α-Alkyl Styrenes to Access Trisubstituted Alkenes

Songgen Xu et al.

Summary: The study achieves stereoselective isomerization of alpha-alkyl styrenes using a new iron catalyst supported by PPO ligand, leading to high yields of trisubstituted alkenes with excellent regio- and stereoselectivities. Results from deuterium-labelling and radical trap experiments support an iron-hydride pathway involving reversible alkene insertion and beta-H elimination.

Selective 1,2-Aminoisothiocyanation of 1,3-Dienes Under Visible-Light Photoredox Catalysis

Weisi Guo et al.

Summary: This study reports a highly chemo- and regio-selective 1,2-aminoisothiocyanation reaction of 1,3-dienes using N-aminopyridinium salts and TMSNCS under mild photoredox catalytic conditions. The selective formation of products is attributed to the facile isomerization of allyl thiocyanates to allyl isothiocyanates under photocatalytic conditions, offering potential applications in the synthesis of allyl isothiocyanates.

Rongrong Yu et al.

Summary: A regio-, chemo-, and enantioselective nickel-catalyzed hydrocyanation of 1,3-dienes has been achieved by using a specific multichiral diphosphite ligand. Besides aryl-substituted 1,3-dienes, challenging aliphatic 1,3-diene substrates can also be selectively converted to the corresponding 1,2-adducts with high yields and the highest enantioselectivities to date.

Z-Selective Dienylation Enables Stereodivergent Construction of Dienes and Unravels a Ligand-Driven Mechanistic Dichotomy

Hang T. Dang et al.

Summary: The development of stereoselective and efficient reactions for the construction of conjugated dienes and polyenes plays a crucial role in organic chemistry. A new method has been developed for highly Z-selective dienylation by making a simple adjustment of a ligand, enabling the synthesis of E- and Z-dienes in a stereodivergent manner from one reagent in one step.

Highly Z-Selective Double Bond Transposition in Simple Alkenes and Allylarenes through a Spin-Accelerated Allyl Mechanism

Daniel Kim et al.

Summary: By using a high-spin cobalt(I) complex as the catalyst, efficient conversion of terminal alkenes to Z-2-alkenes with high regioselectivity and stereoselectivity can be achieved. The catalyst operates through a pi-allyl mechanism, which is distinct from the alkyl mechanism used by other Z-selective catalysts. Computational studies suggest that a spin state change enables the catalyst to differentiate stereodefining barriers and produce the Z product.

Iron- and Cobalt-Catalyzed Asymmetric Hydrofunctionalization of Alkenes and Alkynes

Jun Guo et al.

Summary: Transition metal-catalyzed asymmetric hydro-functionalization has been a straightforward and atom-economic way to access valuable optically active products. While noble transition metals have dominated this field, the attention has recently shifted to first-row, earth-abundant transition metals for their economic and sustainable advantages. However, the limited availability of chiral ligand libraries remains a significant challenge in developing highly enantioselective versions for these earth-abundant metal catalyzed reactions.

Summary: An efficient asymmetric denitrogenative cycloaddition of benzotriazoles with cyclic and acyclic 1,3-dienes was reported, delivering a variety of substituted hexahydrocarbazoles and indolines in good yields with high enantiomeric excess values. Interestingly, a pair of enantiomers with the same absolute configuration could be obtained using different chiral ligands. Pincer Iron Hydride Complexes for Alkene Isomerization: Catalytic Approach to Trisubstituted (Z)-Alkenyl Boronates

Songgen Xu et al.

Summary: A iron dichloride complex supported by PNNimid ligand catalyzes the isomerization of 1,1-disubstituted alkenyl boronates to trisubstituted (Z)-alkenyl boronates with excellent regio- and stereo-selectivity. The selectivity and efficiency of the reaction are affected by the loading of the catalyst activator relative to iron.
