FactSage Studies to Identify the Optimum Slag Regime for Blast Furnace Operation

Kanak Das et al.

Summary: Reducing slag rate can improve blast furnace productivity, and achieving this can be done by removing alumina from the iron ore or adding more silica. High Al2O3% in BF slag has negative effects, so it is important to identify a slag regime with low liquidus temperature and viscosity.

Influence of TiO2 on viscosity, phase composition and structure of chromium-containing high-titanium blast furnace slag

Ding Yang et al.

Summary: The addition of TiO2 in chromium-containing vanadium-titanium blast furnace slag can significantly decrease the viscosity of the slag by simplifying the slag structure through detachment of Ti4+ ions. This change in structure leads to a decrease in the polymerization degree of the slag, resulting in lower viscosity.

Effect of w(MgO)/w(Al2O3) ratio and basicity on microstructure and metallurgical properties of blast furnace slag

Wei-guo Kong et al.

Summary: The CaO-SiO2-Al2O3-MgO system plays a crucial role in the formation of slag during blast furnace smelting. Molecular dynamics simulations revealed that increasing the basicity and w(MgO)/w(Al2O3) ratio can affect the stability of ions and accelerate the diffusion rate. Additionally, the self-diffusion coefficients of ions were found to follow the order Mg2+ > Ca2+ > Al3+ > Si4+, impacting the metallurgical properties of slag at high temperatures.
