Synthesis and characteristics of gel-derived SiO2-CaO-P2O5 -SrO-Ag2O-ZnO bioactive glass: Bioactivity, biocompatibility, and antibacterial properties

Negar Azizabadi et al.

Summary: In this study, bioactive glass with zinc and silver content was synthesized via the sol-gel route. The results showed that the samples with higher zinc and silver content exhibited better bioactivity, antibacterial properties, and formation of hydroxyapatite. Among all the specimens, the sample BG-A2Z3 demonstrated optimal properties and is considered the most suitable candidate for orthopedic applications.

The Impact of Composites with Silicate-Based Glasses and Gold Nanoparticles on Skin Wound Regeneration

Sorin M. Marza et al.

Summary: The study showed that bioactive glass with spherical gold nanocages in Vaseline ointments can enhance skin healing and regeneration in rats, with great antibacterial activity to prevent bacterial infections. The incorporation of silver stabilized spherical gold nanocages influenced the wound healing process, leading to complete skin regeneration after two weeks in all groups of rats.

The role of Ag2O on antibacterial and bioactive properties of borate glasses

Lais Costa Alves da Silva et al.

Summary: This study successfully prepared borate glasses doped with silver, which showed improved bioactivity and excellent antibacterial properties. The addition of silver enhanced the alkalinity of the glasses in simulated body fluid and led to the formation of hydroxyapatite and fluorapatite phases. Antibacterial tests demonstrated the efficiency of silver-doped borate glasses against both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria.
