Resting-State Cerebello-Cortical Dysfunction in Parkinson's Disease

William C. Palmer et al.

Summary: The study found significant differences in cerebello-cortical functional connectivity between PD patients and normal controls, particularly in the somatomotor network. Cognitive function was found to be associated with connectivity of the cerebellar SMN and dorsal attention network. Altered cerebellar connectivity with frontoparietal and default mode networks was also correlated with the severity of motor function in PD.

Summary: Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative condition with diverse causes and clinical presentations. Diagnosis is clinically based, and treatment goals vary from person to person, emphasizing the need for personalized management. Currently, there is no therapy to slow down or arrest the progression of Parkinson's disease.

Differences in Levodopa Response for Progressive and Non-Progressive Micrographia in Parkinson's Disease

Poonam Zham et al.

Summary: The study found that levodopa had different responses on progressive micrographia and non-progressive micrographia, with the former being less sensitive. While levodopa produced similar effects on motor scores for both groups, the improvement in writing speed was over twofold greater for the non-progressive micrographia group compared to the progressive micrographia group.

Action Observation and Motor Imagery Improve Dual Task in Parkinson's Disease: A Clinical/fMRI Study

Elisabetta Sarasso et al.

Summary: Dual-task gait/balance training combined with action observation training and motor imagery can lead to improved mobility, balance, and executive functions in PD patients with postural instability and gait disorders. This combined training also promotes specific functional reorganization in brain areas involved in motor control, leading to long-lasting effects on dual-task mobility and balance.

Rationalizing constraints on the capacity for cognitive control

Sebastian Musslick et al.

Summary: Humans have limitations in simultaneously executing control-dependent tasks and focusing intensely on single tasks, which may be a rational adaptation to computational dilemmas in neural architectures. The reviewed literature suggests that limitations in multitasking may stem from a trade-off between learning efficacy and processing efficiency, while limitations in task commitment intensity may reflect a trade-off between cognitive stability and flexibility.

Macular microcirculation characteristics in Parkinson's disease evaluated by OCT-Angiography: a literature review

Evita Evangelia Christou et al.

Summary: The retina may serve as a predictive factor for neurodegenerative disorders, with recent use of Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCT-A) in studying macular microcirculation changes in Parkinson's disease (PD). While preliminary evidence suggests OCT-A could be a useful biomarker for cerebral vasculature in PD, further research is needed to confirm its predictive value in clinical practice.
