Workflow towards automated segmentation of agglomerated, non-spherical particles from electron microscopy images using artificial neural networks

Bastian Ruehle et al.

Summary: The study presents a workflow using artificial neural networks for automatic particle segmentation, which does not require large manually annotated datasets, has short training times, and rapid analysis. By generating most of the training data through unsupervised learning and utilizing generative adversarial networks for qualitative and quantitative evaluation of segmentation masks, the workflow achieves automatic extraction of particle size distributions.

Features and Practicability of the Next-Generation Sensors and Monitors for Exposure Assessment to Airborne Pollutants: A Systematic Review

Giacomo Fanti et al.

Summary: The issue of exposure assessment of airborne pollutants has been increasing in importance, leading to the development and use of next-generation airborne pollutants monitors and sensors (NGMS) in environmental and occupational exposure assessment studies. While NGMS cannot be used as reference instrumentation for regulatory air monitoring, they can be adapted for specific applications to improve exposure assessment studies in terms of resolution, wearability, and adaptability. Further improvements are needed to enhance NGMS performance and expand their use in exposure assessment.
