Optically actuating ultra-stable radicals in a large π-conjugated ligand constructed photochromic complex

Ji-Xiang Hu et al.

Summary: Producing ultra-stabilized radicals via light irradiation is a significant challenge in functional materials. A photochromic compound constructed with tri(4-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine (TPT) ligands has been discovered to optically actuate ultra-stable radicals with a lifetime of about 18 months. Additionally, the antiferromagnetic couplings between TPT radicals and Cu2+ ions result in significant demagnetization after light irradiation, demonstrating the largest room temperature photodemagnetization in radical-based photochromic materials.

Photochromic and Room-Temperature Phosphorescent D-A Hybrid Crystals Induced by Anion-π Interactions

Yi-Ming Di et al.

Summary: Donor-acceptor hybrid crystals are a novel class of crystalline hybrid complexes that exhibit electron-transfer photochromic properties and possible room-temperature phosphorescence. These crystals are composed of POMs and NDIs, which are interconnected through anion-pi interactions. The light-induced color changes and RTP properties of these crystals depend on the matching electron energy levels of POMs and NDIs, as well as the presence of heavy atoms in POMs and coordination metal cations.

Radical-Doped Crystalline Lanthanide-Based Photochromic Complexes: Self-Assembly Driven by Multiple Interactions and Photoswitchable Luminescence

Jin-Fei Lan et al.

Summary: The study focused on obtaining lanthanide-based crystalline materials with significant photochromism and reactive organic radicals by combining water-soluble naphthalenediimide derivative with lanthanide nitrate solution. Photoswitchable near-infrared fluorescence was achieved in crystalline complex 1, with the structures of these materials studied to clarify the charge-transfer process. Multiple-interaction-assisted self-assembly, radical-doped nature, and the photochromic mechanism were thoroughly investigated through various techniques.

UV-vis/X-ray/thermo-induced synthesis and UV-SWIR photoresponsive property of a mixed-valence viologen molybdate semiconductor

Peng-Hao Wang et al.

Summary: A new design strategy utilizing Mo(vi)-Mo(v) intervalence charge transfer and pi(radical)-pi(radical/cation) interactions has been proposed to achieve semiconductors with photoresponsive ranges covering the entire UV-SWIR region. With this strategy, a viologen-based molybdate semiconductor with UV-SWIR photoresponsive range was obtained through UV/X-ray irradiation or thermal annealing, showing the highest conversion and best photocurrent response in the 355-2400 nm range.

Anion-π interaction at the solid/water interfaces

Masaaki Akamatsu et al.

Summary: The study evaluated anion-pi interactions at the solid/water interface and found that anion adsorption followed the hydration energy and the presence of conjugated systems of the anions by QCM measurements. Force curve measurements revealed that the single-molecule force of anion-pi interaction was approximately 40 pN between an NDI unit and the negatively charged surface of the cantilever. This study presented the first example of obtaining a single-molecule force for anion-pi interactions.

The modulation effect of electron-rich solvents on the supramolecular networks and photochromic properties of naphthalene diimide molecules

Huihui Zhu et al.

Summary: Four naphthalene diimide-based organic molecules with different supramolecular networks and photoinduced electron transfer properties have been synthesized, showing distinct photoresponsive behaviors influenced by the introduction of electron-rich solvents. The study illustrates the impact of electron-rich solvents on resultant supramolecular networks and tunable photoresponsive properties.
