Recent progress in homogeneous light-driven hydrogen evolution using first-row transition metal catalysts

Agostina Mazzeo et al.

Summary: Researchers focus on designing, preparing, and testing efficient catalytic systems based on first-row transition metals for homogeneous light-driven hydrogen evolution. Hundreds of molecular HER photocatalysts containing earth-abundant metals and various ligands have been reported and tested recently, aiming to contribute to the development of efficient solar energy devices for H2 generation as a green fuel. This work aims to update the community on the latest advances in this rapidly growing field, with a focus on systems reported between 2016 and 2020.

Toward photocatalytic hydrogen generation over BiVO4 by controlling particle size

Mengdi Sun et al.

Summary: Nano-sized BiVO4 with particle size ranged from 27 nm to 57 nm was successfully synthesized in this work, showing enhanced activity for hydrogen generation by water splitting compared to bulk BiVO4. The improvements in activity are mainly attributed to the reduced particle size, resulting in elevated conduction band, enlarged specific surface area, and promoted charge separation.
