Influence of plastic deformation in fatigue crack behavior in bainitic steel

M. C. Marinelli et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the behavior of fatigue microcracks in a high-strength bainitic steel, aiming to identify the microstructural features influencing the initiation and propagation modes of microcracks. Surface damage during low-cycle fatigue tests at different plastic strain ranges was monitored gradually using light optical and electron microscopy, along with EBSD data analysis. The results indicated a change in cracking mechanisms starting from 0.2% plastic strain.
