Effect of Hot Deformation Parameters on the Dissolution of γ′ Precipitates for As-Cast Ni-Based Superalloys

Zhi-Peng Wan et al.

Summary: The dissolution and redistribution of gamma' precipitates in homogenized as-cast superalloy GH4720Li were systematically studied during heat treatment and hot deformation processes. The volume fraction of gamma' precipitates decreased with increasing temperature, reaching a dissolution equilibrium after 20 minutes of holding time. The dynamic dissolution of gamma' precipitates was accelerated with higher strain and lower strain rate during hot deformation, leading to a significant change in their morphology.

Effect of Nb Content on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of K4169-Type Superalloy

Liu-kun Zhang et al.

Summary: The influence of Nb content on the microstructure and mechanical property of K4169-type superalloy was investigated in this study. It was found that increasing Nb content can improve the strength and high-temperature resistance of the alloy, but may reduce elongation. Additionally, with the increase of aging temperature, the strength of the alloy will increase.

Inhomogeneous Planar Distribution of γ′ Precipitates in Waspaloy Caused by Local Spatial Consumption of MC Carbides

Hongliang Liu et al.

Summary: The distribution of primary gamma' precipitates in Waspaloy after solution heat treatment was investigated at various temperatures. The inhomogeneity of gamma' precipitates increases as sub-solvus temperature increases, leading to the appearance of gamma'-precipitate-free zones after heat treatment at 1040 degrees C. Additionally, the inhomogeneous distribution of gamma' precipitates induces hardness fluctuation within the matrix.

Acoustic Emission during Press-Brake Bending of SS 304L Sheets and its Correlation with Residual Stress Distribution after Bending

S. Lavanya et al.

Summary: Press-brake bending is an important sheet metal forming process used in automotive applications to fabricate different angles and channels. The plastic deformation during bending generates acoustic emission (AE) for online monitoring, aiding in defect identification and residual stress measurement. Analysis of AE signals shows that AE parameters increase with bend angle and correlate well with residual stress developed from plastic deformation.

Influence of joint interface on mechanical properties in dissimilar friction welds

Muralimohan Cheepu et al.

Summary: Friction welding is a solid-state joining process that provides sound welds without cracks. In this study, the dissimilar join of austenitic stainless steel to high tensile alloy steel was achieved using friction welding. The thickness of the intermixing zone in the welds was found to have an effect on the mechanical properties.

Microstructure and High-Temperature Tensile Behavior of Ni-Based Superalloy EP741NP for Aerospace Applications

Sadananda Behera et al.

Summary: This paper explores the microstructural evolution and high-temperature tensile behavior of a Ni-based superalloy EP741NP for aerospace applications, finding that the predicted phase fractions of secondary and tertiary gamma prime (gamma ') match well with experimental results. The study shows that the strengthening gamma ' precipitate provides microstructural stability up to a certain temperature, after which the decrease in strength is attributed to the dissolution of tertiary precipitates hindering grain boundary motion at high temperatures. Fractographic studies reveal a mixed fracture mode, combining both ductile and brittle fracture characteristics.
