Fabrication of bulk Al-Co-Cr-Fe-Ni high-entropy alloy using combined cable wire arc additive manufacturing (CCW-AAM): Microstructure and mechanical properties

Qingkai Shen et al.

Summary: In this study, a new type of combined cable wire (CCW) was designed and developed for arc additive manufacturing of non-equiatomic high-entropy alloy, showing high deposition efficiency, energy saving capability, and superior mechanical properties. The microstructural observations revealed BCC and FCC phases, good bonding between layers, and defect-free microstructure in the developed alloy. By controlling heat input through torch travel speed, the microstructure and mechanical properties of the alloy can be managed effectively.

Investigation of Microstructure and Fracture Mechanism of Al-5.0Mg Alloys Fabricated by Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing

Yanfei Geng et al.

Summary: The study focused on the anisotropy of the microstructure and mechanical properties of Al-5.0Mg alloys in different orientations. It found that the microstructure in the horizontal direction is relatively homogeneous, and samples fabricated by WAAM-CMT exhibit better mechanical properties in that orientation compared to the as-cast alloy.

Arc Additively Manufactured 5356 Aluminum Alloy with Cable-Type Welding Wire: Microstructure and Mechanical Properties

Jiankun Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the use of cable-type welding wire (CWW) in wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) to manufacture thin-walled AA5356 aluminum alloy, showing improved quality built parts. The grain morphology, phase in micro-constituents, and defect formation were analyzed through optical micrography and XRD. Mechanical tests revealed an increase in ultimate tensile strength and yield strength compared to casting aluminum alloy, highlighting the advantages of WAAM with CWW.
