Effect of assisted transverse magnetic field on distortion behavior of thin-walled components in WEDM process

Yanming Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the machining performance of thin-walled components made from difficult-to-process materials in the aviation manufacturing industry. The study focuses on reducing distortion in the wire electric discharge machining-low speed (WEDM-LS) process by applying a transverse magnetic field. Theoretical analysis and experimental verification demonstrate the significant improvement in discharge point distribution and reduction in distortion achieved by the transverse magnetic field.

Investigation of the Capabilities of Transverse Magnetic Field Controlled Laser-Induced Plasma Micro-Machining

Yanming Zhang et al.

Summary: The study investigates the application of external magnetic fields in laser-induced plasma micro-machining, finding that plasma intensity and aspect ratios can be significantly increased under transverse magnetic field control. The greatest impact of magnetic fields on machining capabilities is observed in magnetic materials.

Atomistic View of Laser Fragmentation of Gold Nanoparticles in a Liquid Environment

Hao Huang et al.

Summary: Short-pulse laser irradiation of a colloidal solution of nanoparticles is an effective method for fragmenting the nanoparticles and producing smaller nanoparticles and atomic clusters with desired properties. A computational model capable of realistic treatment of various processes reveals two distinct channels of formation of the fragmentation products. The nanoparticles experience ultrafast quenching in the water environment, leading to high density of twin boundaries and crystal defects that enhance catalytic applications.
