Solid-State Photonics-Based Lidar With Large Beam-Steering Angle by Seamlessly Merging Two Orthogonally Polarized Beams

Summary: In a solid-stage photonics-based Lidar, beam steering can be achieved through wavelength tuning, but a large tuning range is typically required. By designing two grating couplers optimized for orthogonal polarizations in silicon-on-insulator waveguide, two orthogonally-polarized output beams can be seamlessly merged together, significantly increasing the beam-steering angle.
