Transceiver Noise Characterization Based on Perturbations

Francisco Javier Vaquero-Caballero et al.

Summary: This paper discusses a new technique for measuring transceiver noise and skew, and detecting uncompensated transceiver impairments by introducing frequency domain notches at the transmitter. The proposed method allows for estimating the Signal-to-Noise and Distortion Ratio at different stages over the transmission chain with minimal processing of the received signal. The analysis focuses on Ciena's WaveLogic Ai commercial transceiver and a 95 Gbaud DAC, demonstrating the use of frequency domain notches to mitigate crosstalk effects and detection of impairments.

Transceiver Imbalances Compensation and Monitoring by Receiver DSP

Junpeng Liang et al.

Summary: In this study, a method to isolate and separately monitor various impairments in optical transceiver is presented using coherent digital signal processing. The method can compensate and monitor amplitude imbalance, phase imbalance, and IQ skew individually, and has been verified to be feasible through experiments. The results demonstrate that each monitor can operate robustly even in the presence of multiple impairments.

2048-QAM transmission at 15 GBd over 100 km using geometric constellation shaping

Yuta Wakayama et al.

Summary: The experimental study explored the use of high-order geometric constellation shaping to increase achievable information rates in standard intradyne coherent transmission systems, with the highest AIR reaching 18.0 b/4D-symbol. After transmission through 100 km of single-mode fiber and subtracting pilot overhead, the system achieved an information rate of 16.9 b/4D-symbol, representing the highest-order GS format demonstrated to date.
