A 12-bit 30 MS/s SAR ADC in 180 nm CMOS for PMT signal readout

Y. Guo et al.

Summary: Photomultiplier Tubes (PMTs) are commonly used in high energy physics experiments as photon detectors for their fast response and high sensitivity. An Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) ASIC is described in this paper, designed to work with a front-end analog ASIC for precise charge measurement. Based on SAR architecture, this ADC achieves a 12-bit resolution with a sampling rate of up to 30 MS/s, and test results show an Effective Number of Bits (ENOB) better than 9.2 bits at 30 MS/s sampling rate.
