Cadmium exposure induces rat proximal tubular cells injury via p62-dependent Nrf2 nucleus translocation mediated activation of AMPK/AKT/mTOR pathway

Wenxuan Dong et al.

Summary: Cd exposure induces kidney cell injury by inhibiting autophagic flux leading to p62 accumulation and Nrf2 nucleus translocation. Nrf2 nucleus translocation inhibits AMPK phosphorylation, activates the AKT/mTOR signaling, and ultimately results in rPT cell injury.

Protective effects of curcumin on ATO-induced nephrotoxicity in ducks in relation to suppressed autophagy, apoptosis and dyslipidemia by regulating oxidative stress

Shaofeng Wu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that Cur had a protective effect on ATO-induced kidney injury in ducks by reducing body weight loss, ATO content in the kidney, kidney pathological damage, MDA level, and activating the Nrf2 pathway. Cur also alleviated mitochondrial swelling, autolysosomes generating, nuclear damage, and regulated autophagy and apoptosis-related gene and protein expression levels. Furthermore, Cur administration improved the disturbance of lipid metabolism caused by ATO exposure.

Puerarin attenuates cadmium-induced hepatic lipid metabolism disorder by inhibiting oxidative stress and inflammation in mice

Xue-Mei Wan et al.

Summary: In a 9-week study involving 40 mice, Puerarin (PU) was shown to improve liver damage and lipid metabolism disorder induced by Cadmium (Cd). PU reduced lipid accumulation and liver injury, exerted antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, and normalized lipid metabolism-related proteins disturbed by Cd exposure.

The Roles of Oxidative Stress in Regulating Autophagy in Methylmercury-induced Neurotoxicity

Yanfeng Wei et al.

Summary: Methylmercury (MeHg) is a potential neurotoxin that exerts its neurotoxicity through oxidative stress and autophagy, with evidence suggesting that oxidative stress regulates the autophagy pathway. MeHg-induced neurotoxicity is mainly mediated by mTOR-dependent and mTOR-independent autophagy signaling pathways. The current review explores the regulation of autophagy by reactive oxygen species (ROS) and Nrf2 in MeHg neurotoxicity, offering a new perspective on the mechanism of MeHg neurotoxicity.

Edaravone attenuates cadmium-induced toxicity by inhibiting oxidative stress and inflammation in ICR mice

Sheng-Rui Fan et al.

Summary: The study showed that Edaravone has a protective effect against cadmium-induced toxicity by preventing oxidative stress and inflammatory responses, leading to restoration of neuronal function. The BDNF-TrkB/Akt and Notch/HES-1 signaling axes play a role in Edaravone's response to eliminate cadmium toxicity.

The selective adsorption performance and mechanism of multiwall magnetic carbon nanotubes for heavy metals in wastewater

Zhongbing Wang et al.

Summary: A new type of recyclable adsorbent, 6O-MWCNTs@Fe3O4, with excellent adsorption performance has been synthesized in this study, which can efficiently treat heavy metal ions in wastewater. The modification with magnetic nanoparticles not only inherits the advantages of multiwall carbon nanotubes, but also enhances the adsorption capacity and facilitates the magnetic separation and recovery of heavy metals.
