A structural, DFT and experimental investigation of the ring stability and ring-opening polymerization behaviour of cyclic thionylphosphazenes in the presence of Lewis acid catalysts

Rachele N. Carafa et al.

Summary: A series of cyclic thionylphosphazenes were prepared and studied for their susceptibility to ring-opening polymerization with Lewis acid catalysts at ambient temperatures through both density functional theory calculations and experimental investigations. The results suggest that thionylphosphazenes exhibit sensitivity and reversibility to the Lewis acid-catalyzed polymerization reactions at room temperature.

Halogen-free fixation of carbon dioxide into cyclic carbonates via bifunctional organocatalysts

Feng Zhang et al.

Summary: Bifunctional organocatalysts with diamine and carboxylic acid groups were used to prepare cyclic carbonates through cycloaddition reactions, showing excellent catalytic activities with high yields and selectivities. This metal-free system provides a promising halogen-free and green pathway for the synthesis of cyclic carbonates from CO2 and epoxides.
