Defective UiO-66(Zr) as an efficient catalyst for the synthesis of bio jet-fuel precursors via aldol condensation of furfural and MIBK

Daniel de la Flor et al.

Summary: The production of jet-fuel precursors from furfural via aldol-condensation with methyl-isobutyl ketone over a defective UiO-66(Zr) catalyst, prepared using formic acid as modulator, has shown remarkable catalytic performance. Extensive characterization and optimization of reaction conditions have identified temperature as the most relevant parameter affecting selectivity. However, catalyst deactivation due to organic deposits formation from furfural side reactions remains a challenge.
