Defect-Induced Self-Cleaning Solar Absorber with Full-Spectrum Light Absorption for Efficient Dye Wastewater Purification

Baohua Yuan et al.

Summary: Solar steam generation is a promising method to address water scarcity, and a self-cleaning absorber has been developed to prevent organic pollutants from accumulating on traditional solar absorbers. The multifunctional H-TiO2-X/CsXWO3 composite not only achieves a high evaporation rate, but also prevents surface enrichment of organic molecules during continuous steam generation. Integrating photocatalysis into solar-driven water evaporation improves performance and expands potential applications.

Self-Doping Surface Oxygen Vacancy-Induced Lattice Strains for Enhancing Visible Light-Driven Photocatalytic H2 Evolution over Black TiO2

Jiaqi Gao et al.

Summary: The synergistic effect of surface oxygen vacancy and induced lattice strains on black TiO2 can significantly enhance the photocatalytic H-2 evolution under visible light. The presence of surface oxygen vacancies leads to the formation of a high-energy surface, which improves visible light absorption and enhances the photoinduced charge separation efficiency. Additionally, the induced lattice strains provide a driving force for the directional movement of photoinduced electrons from the bulk to the high-energy surface, resulting in a 12-fold increase in the hydrogen evolution rate.

C-, N-Vacancy defect engineered polymeric carbon nitride towards photocatalysis: viewpoints and challenges

Abhinandan Kumar et al.

Summary: Graphite-like carbon nitride (g-C3N4; GCN) is a metal-free polymeric semiconductor material with fascinating physicochemical and photoelectronic structural features, yet its wide-range applicability is limited by inherent drawbacks such as rapid reassembly of photocarriers and low specific surface area. Introducing vacancies into the framework of GCN to generate 0D point defects has shown potential in manipulating optical absorption, radiative carrier isolation, and surface photoreactions. Various advanced strategies for controlled designing of vacancy-rich GCN have been explored, highlighting the significance of defect engineering on optical absorption, charge isolation, and surface photoreaction ability in GCN. Applications of defect engineered GCN include photocatalytic water splitting, CO2 conversion, N-2 fixation, pollutant degradation, and H2O2 production.
