Separation of coal mine methane gas mixture via sII and sH hydrate formation

Namrata Gaikwad et al.

Summary: In this study, methane separation from CMM gas mixture was achieved by forming sII and sH hydrates with the use of different thermodynamic promoters at moderate temperature and pressure conditions. The formation of sII hydrate showed better methane recovery, while the formation of sH hydrate demonstrated a better separation factor. The use of water-soluble hydrate promoter sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) enhanced the rate of hydrate formation for better separation efficiency.

Coal mine gas separation of methane via clathrate hydrate process aided by tetrahydrofuran and amino acids

Qiang Zhang et al.

Summary: Coal bed methane (CBM) is currently not commercially viable in many regions due to the high concentration of non-flammable gases. Gas separation via gas hydrate using environmentally benign amino acids such as L-tryptophan and L-leucine has shown potential for improving methane recovery and separation efficiency. The combination of amino acids with tetrahydrofuran (THF) can enhance the CH4 recovery ratio and initial hydrate growth rate, providing a promising method for recovering low-concentration CBM.

Molecular mechanisms by which tetrahydrofuran affects CO2 hydrate Growth: Implications for carbon storage

Anh Phan et al.

Summary: Gas hydrates have recently shown potential applications for greenhouse gas capture and storage. This study investigates the impact of tetrahydrofuran (THF) on the kinetics of CO2 hydrate growth/dissociation and storage capacity. The simulations confirm that THF reduces CO2 storage capacity due to its preferred occupancy in hydrate cages.

Promoting methane hydrate formation with expanded graphite additives: Application to solidified natural gas storage

Zhixia Deng et al.

Summary: Solidified natural gas storage using hydrate with the addition of expanded graphite and sodium dodecyl sulfate showed enhanced gas storage capacity and absorption rate. The collaborative system of expanded graphite and SDS solution significantly improved the kinetics of hydrate formation, leading to higher gas storage capacity and speed compared to traditional systems. Further research on the promotion mechanism of expanded graphite is deemed essential for future commercial applications of solidified natural gas storage.
