Supporting behaviour change in younger-onset dementia: mapping the needs of family carers in the community

Claire M. C. O'Connor et al.

Summary: Difficult-to-manage behavior changes are common in people with younger-onset dementia living in the community. Family carers reported difficulties in managing behavior changes and accessing formal support strategies with variable confidence. Better access to specific behavior support services is needed to enhance competence and confidence in providing behavior support and ultimately improve quality of life for both the family and the person with dementia.

Positive behaviour support in frontotemporal dementia: A pilot study

Claire M. C. O'Connor et al.

Summary: Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is a progressive neurodegenerative brain condition characterized by marked changes in behavior. Family carers of individuals with FTD find apathy and disinhibition particularly challenging. Positive behavior support (PBS) intervention has been shown to be acceptable and beneficial in improving apathetic and disinhibited behaviors in FTD patients.

Family perspectives on the acceptability and usefulness of the FAB Positive Behaviour Support program: A pilot study

Alinka Fisher et al.

Summary: The pilot study aimed to investigate the acceptability and usefulness of the FAB-PBS program for providing behavior support to families following ABI in community settings. Results showed high satisfaction among family members and increased confidence in providing behavior support, as well as an increase in desired behaviors and a decrease in challenging behaviors among family members with ABI. Further pilot testing is needed to inform the development of a larger feasibility study.

Parent-implemented brief functional analysis and treatment with coaching via telehealth

Stephanie Gerow et al.

Summary: The study showed that parent-implemented brief functional analyses, combined with telehealth coaching, may be an effective method for assessing and treating challenging behavior in children with autism. For most participants, the brief functional analysis provided information about the function of the behavior, which was supported by treatment evaluations.
