SNPC-1.3 is a sex-specific transcription factor that drives male piRNA expression in C. elegans

Charlotte P. Choi et al.

Summary: Research has identified SNPC-1.3 as a male-specific piRNA transcription factor in Caenorhabditis elegans, which is essential for spermatogenic piRNA transcription in conjunction with the core transcription factor SNPC-4. Loss of SNPC-1.3 results in depletion of male piRNAs and fertility defects. Additionally, the master regulator of sex determination, TRA-1, represses the expression of snpc-1.3 during oogenesis, with loss of TRA-1 targeting leading to ectopic expression of snpc-1.3 and male piRNAs. Thus, sexually dimorphic regulation of snpc-1.3 coordinates male and female piRNA expression during germline development.

A chromodomain protein mediates heterochromatin-directed piRNA expression

Xinya Huang et al.

Summary: In Caenorhabditis elegans, transcription of piRNA clusters depends on chromatin microenvironment and UAD-2 protein. UAD-2 recruits USTC complex to promote piRNA generation, indicating that transcription of heterochromatic small RNA source loci relies on coordinated recruitment of histone marks readers and the core transcriptional machinery to DNA.

Summary: The Genome Sequence Archive (GSA) and its family of resources aim to provide data storage and sharing services for worldwide scientific communities, including GSA, GSA-Human, and OMIX. GSA has updated data model and online functionalities, GSA-Human stores human genetics-related data, and OMIX provides open archive for miscellaneous data. These resources together form a family, accepting global data submissions and providing free open access for worldwide research activities.
