Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition in oral squamous cell carcinoma: Challenges and opportunities

Zihang Ling et al.

Summary: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common malignancy in global oral cancer, with a low survival rate due to tumor metastasis and recurrence. Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) plays a key role in tumor metastasis and has attracted significant attention. Further research on the role of EMT in OSCC may provide novel insights for developing strategies to combat this type of cancer.

In vitro and in vivo characterization of cancer stem cell subpopulations in oral squamous cell carcinoma

Nadia Ghinelli Amor et al.

Summary: This study characterized the behavior of two cancer stem cell (CSC) phenotypes from an oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) cell line in vitro and in vivo. The Epi-CSC phenotype showed higher proliferation and holoclone formation, while the EMT-CSC phenotype exhibited more migration and invasion in 3D culture. These findings suggest that Epi-CSC may be more important for tumorigenesis, while EMT-CSC may play a role in metastasis.

Dynamic biomarkers indicate the immunological benefits provided by Ganoderma spore powder in post-operative breast and lung cancer patients

Y. Deng et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of Ganoderma spore powder on T lymphocyte subsets, cytokines, and inflammatory biomarkers in breast and lung cancer patients. The results showed that G. lucidum treatment led to changes in T lymphocyte subsets and cytokine levels, while a combination of AGR and NLR could predict treatment benefits.

The role of exercise therapy in managing post-radiotherapy trismus in head and neck cancer

Yousef E. Ezzat et al.

Summary: Trismus is a complication post-radiotherapy that affects survivors of head and neck cancers, characterized by reduced mouth opening. Early intervention is crucial to prevent further damage. In this case, a 40-year-old woman with oral cancer showed significant improvement in mouth opening after 6 weeks of treatment with TheraBite Jaw Motion Rehabilitation System and wooden tongue depressors, eventually restoring mouth function through a definitive obturator prosthesis fabricated using advanced technologies.

Pancreatic cancer cell apoptosis is induced by a proteoglycan extracted from Ganoderma lucidum

Xiao Wu et al.

Summary: Fudan-Yueyang-Ganoderma lucidum (FYGL) selectively inhibits the viability of PANC-1 and BxPC-3 pancreatic cancer cells by suppressing Bcl-2 expression, increasing ROS levels, and inhibiting autophagy, ultimately promoting apoptosis through the caspase-3/cleaved caspase-3 cascade.
