Antidepressant Effect of Paeoniflorin Is Through Inhibiting Pyroptosis CASP-11/GSDMD Pathway

Dan-Dan Tian et al.

Summary: Paeoniflorin (PF), derived from Paeonia lactiflora, alleviated reserpine-induced depression-like behaviors and synaptic plasticity abnormality by inhibiting pyroptosis signaling transduction mediated by GSDMD in microglia. PF administration inhibited CASP-11-dependent pyroptosis signaling transduction to alleviate neuroinflammation in reserpine-treated mice.

Paeoniflorin: A neuroprotective monoterpenoid glycoside with promising anti-depressive properties

Xiao-Le Wang et al.

Summary: This review summarized the pre-clinical studies of paeoniflorin in treating depression and discussed its potential anti-depressive mechanisms, such as upregulation of neurotransmitters, neuroprotection, hippocampus neurogenesis, and inhibition of inflammatory reaction. While highlighting its effective properties in treating depression, more high-quality pre-clinical and clinical studies are needed for further exploration of its clinical application.
