Improved live-cell PCR method for detection of organophosphates degrading opd genes and applications

Himanshu Mali et al.

Summary: In this study, an improved colony PCR method was developed for detecting opd genes in bacteria capable of degrading organophosphates. The method does not require pre-heating or pre-lysis of bacterial cells and is suitable for different types of bacteria and genes.

A novel organophosphate hydrolase from Arthrobacter sp. HM01: Characterization and applications

Himanshu Mali et al.

Summary: This study isolated a potential organophosphate hydrolase gene and produced the recombinant enzyme through cloning, expression, and purification. The recombinant enzyme showed high catalytic efficiency for a broad range of organophosphate pesticides in organic solvents. Important catalytic residues were identified through site-directed mutagenesis. Biochemical optimization further enhanced the enzyme's catalytic activity and stability. These findings indicate the potential of this enzyme for bioremediation of organophosphate pesticides.

Degradation insight of organophosphate pesticide chlorpyrifos through novel intermediate 2,6-dihydroxypyridine by Arthrobacter sp. HM01

Himanshu Mali et al.

Summary: Organophosphates are hazardous pesticides that contaminate soil and water sources. A new strain of Arthrobacter bacteria has been discovered, which has the ability to rapidly degrade organophosphates such as chlorpyrifos. It shows high efficiency and tolerance in degrading these toxic compounds.

Organophosphorus pesticides in greenhouse and open-field soils across China: Distribution characteristic, polluted pathway and health risk

Zhiheng Li et al.

Summary: A national-scale survey in China investigated the distribution, polluted pathway and health risks of organophosphorus pesticides (OPPs) in greenhouse and open-field soils across 20 regions. The study found varying concentrations of OPPs, with the highest residues in the northeastern, northern and central areas due to intensive agricultural activities. Environmental factors, particularly soil properties, had a significant influence on OPP contamination, with human activities playing a major role in greenhouse contamination and soil properties affecting heavy metal residues in open fields. Overall, the hazard indexes were below 1.0 in all soil samples, but children were found to be more susceptible to non-cancer risks of OPPs in greenhouse soils.

Summary: This study presents a case study on the presence of Glyphosate (GLY) and its breakdown product AMPA in long-term no-tillage farming systems in Brazil. The research found high concentrations of GLY and AMPA in the soil, with soil texture significantly affecting their retention. The study highlights potential risks to soil communities and sets a baseline for future research on adverse effects on soil biota.
