Utilisation of municipal solid waste incinerator (MSWI) fl y ash with metakaolin for preparation of alkali-activated cementitious material

Jun Liu et al.

Summary: The application of alkali-activation technology to prepare alkali-activated MSWIFA material holds potential to immobilize heavy metals and enhance its pozzolanic property for manufacturing building material. Adding metakaolin in AAFA significantly improves compressive strength, with the addition of sodium silicate increasing strength further. AAFA and AAFM successfully suppress leaching behaviors of certain metals to meet Chinese standards.

Electrodialytic remediation of municipal solid waste incineration fly ash as pre-treatment before geopolymerisation with coal fly ash

Xinyuan Zhan et al.

Summary: The study explored the use of electrodialytic remediation (ED) as a pre-treatment to remove heavy metals from MSWI fly ash before geopolymerization. The pre-treatment increased the reactivity of Si and Si/Al ratio in fly ash. A mixture of 80% coal fly ash and 20% ED treated fly ash with 8 M NaOH was found to have optimal compressive strength in geopolymerization.

Numerical investigation of MSW combustion influenced by air preheating in a full-scale moving grate incinerator

Mi Yan et al.

Summary: The study found that a higher primary air temperature led to a larger evaporation layer at the bottom of the bed, resulting in faster complete combustion. Additionally, higher primary air temperatures increased devolatilization rate and peak flame temperature.

A review on conventional and novel materials towards heavy metal adsorption in wastewater treatment application

Wai Siong Chai et al.

Summary: Wastewater treatment is still a critical issue globally, and the removal of heavy metals is of utmost importance. Adsorption is the most common technique, with activated carbon being the traditional adsorbent, but facing challenges in separation and cost. Novel materials show competitiveness with excellent attributes like large surface area and high chemical inertness, presenting a promising future for heavy metal adsorption in wastewater treatment.

Bagging based ensemble learning approaches for modeling the emission of PCDD/Fs from municipal solid waste incinerators

Ken Chen et al.

Summary: This study applied machine learning to accurately determine the emission concentrations of PCDD/Fs from multiple municipal solid waste incinerators. The BGNN model was found to be the most effective, performing well in testing and providing better interpretation of I-TEQ values.
