Size-Dependent Cytotoxic and Molecular Study of the Use of Gold Nanoparticles against Liver Cancer Cells

Abdulaziz A. Al-Khedhairy et al.

Summary: The size of nanomaterials plays a crucial role in their biological activities. In this study, gold nanoparticles (GNPs) of different sizes were synthesized and applied to liver cancer cells. The results showed that the different-sized GNPs could enhance the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and up-regulate the expression of apoptotic genes in liver cancer cells, indicating their potential in inducing cancer cell death.

Spondias pinnata(L.f.) Kurz Leaf Extract Derived Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles Induce Dual Modes of Apoptotic-Necrotic Death in HCT 116 and K562 Cells

Abdul Aziz Ahlam et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that phyto-derived zinc oxide nanoparticles exhibit cytotoxicity against human cancer cells, inducing both apoptosis and necrosis, while showing potential anti-proliferative effects. Compared to chemically synthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles, biogenic nanoparticles do not show harmful effects on normal lymphocytes and erythrocytes, indicating their biocompatibility and selective action.

Green synthesis of nanoparticles using Calendula officinalis extract from silver sulfate and their antibacterial effects on Pectobacterium caratovorum

Atoosa Olfati et al.

Summary: The study utilized marigold flower extract to synthesize silver nanoparticles for the first time to control Pectobacterium caratovorum subsp. cacatovorum (Pcc), showing effective antibacterial properties. The silver nanoparticles synthesized from silver sulfate salt exhibited a weaker antibacterial effect, with MIC and MBC of 40 and 160 ppm, respectively. The nanoparticles displayed a bimodal effect on biofilm formation.
