First-Order Shape Derivative of the Energy for Elastic Plates with Rigid Inclusions and Interfacial Cracks

Evgeny Rudoy et al.

Summary: This study analyzes a variational model for elastic plates with rigid inclusions and interfacial cracks within the framework of Kirchhoff-Love plate theory. The main feature of the model is a fully coupled nonpenetration condition involving both longitudinal displacements and transverse deflections of crack faces. The research proves the well-defined first-order shape derivative of potential deformation energy and provides an explicit representation for it, which is applied to derive the Griffith formula for energy release rate associated with crack extension.
