Coordination-driven interfacial cross-linked graphene oxide-alginate nacre mesh with underwater superoleophobicity for oil-water separation

Lulu Wang et al.

Summary: Inspired by seashell nacre and seaweed, a novel GO-Ca2+-SA nacre-inspired hybrid mesh was prepared through interfacial layer-by-layer self-assembly and cross-linking, showing superhydrophilic and underwater superoleophobic properties. The hybrid mesh exhibited high separation efficiencies for various oil-water mixtures and a high flux rate.

Nacre-Inspired Biomineralized Mesh toward Scalable and Robust Oil-Water Separation with High Efficiency

Shaokang Yu et al.

Summary: The NBM, inspired by natural nacre, exhibits good mechanical properties with similar micro-nanostructures and chemical components. It can resist sand impingement and knife scratch while maintaining a high oil-water separation efficiency of approximately 99.9% even after repeated use for 50 times. This study provides insights for the scalable development of efficient and robust oil-water separation materials.
