Copper Tannic Acid-Coordinated Metal-Organic Nanosheets for Synergistic Antimicrobial and Antifouling Coatings

Jia Li et al.

Summary: In this study, copper tannic acid (CuTA) nanosheets with excellent antibacterial activity were successfully prepared and showed fine antibacterial and antifouling performance after being hybridized with acrylic resin. The CuTA nanosheets exhibited significant killing rates against Gram-positive Bacillus subtilis and Gram-negative Escherichia coli, disrupting their cell walls and inhibiting their proliferation and growth. The hybrid coating of CuTA nanosheets and acrylic resin displayed promising antimicrobial effectiveness and antialgae properties under a low CuTA load, suggesting potential applications in marine antifouling coatings.

Electron transfer mediator PCN secreted by aerobic marine Pseudomonas aeruginosa accelerates microbiologically influenced corrosion of TC4 titanium alloy

Dan Liu et al.

Summary: The marine microorganism Pseudomonas aeruginosa can cause microbiologically influenced corrosion of titanium alloys, resulting in unstable surfaces and severe pitting corrosion. The secretion of PCN by P. aeruginosa promotes corrosion, and deletion of the corresponding gene significantly decreases corrosion rates.

Emulsion-Based Organohydrogels with Switchable Wettability and Underwater Adhesion toward Durable and Ecofriendly Marine Antifouling Coatings

Zhuo Zhang et al.

Summary: The COHGs fabricated in this study exhibit excellent mechanical properties and low-swellable behavior in water or oil, thanks to the synergistic collaboration of covalent linkages, electrostatic interaction, and hydrogen bonding. The amphiphilic heteronetworks possess switchable surface wettability in response to different solvents, and strong wet adhesion to various surfaces, making them ideal for practical applications. The elastic surfaces combined with amphiphilic and zwitterionic features show remarkable fouling resistance and recyclable utilization, presenting a promising approach for the development of high-performance and ecofriendly antifouling materials.
