Reallocating Time Spent in Physical Activity, Sedentary Behavior and Its Association with Fear of Falling: Isotemporal Substitution Model

Pengfei Ren et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the associations between physical activity (PA), sedentary behavior (SB), and fear of falling (FOF) in older Chinese women. The results showed that replacing 30 minutes of sedentary behavior with moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) was associated with a reduction in FOF, while replacing 30 minutes of MVPA with sedentary behavior was associated with higher FOF. These findings suggest that increasing engagement in MVPA and reducing sedentary behavior can be beneficial for managing FOF in older women, especially those with fall experience.

Objectively measured physical activity is associated with frailty in community-dwelling older adults: A systematic review

Alec P. L. Tolley et al.

Summary: The study found that objectively measured physical activity and sedentary behavior are associated with frailty in older adults living in the community, regardless of the definition of frailty. Different measures of physical activity and sedentary behavior are all related to frailty.

Moderate-to-vigorous physical activity modifies the relationship between sedentary time and sarcopenia: the Tromso Study 2015-2016

Jonas Johansson et al.

Summary: This study found that older adults who engage in moderate amounts of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity have a lower risk of probable sarcopenia, even when they have high sedentary time. On the other hand, older adults with low sedentary time but low amounts of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity do not have a reduced risk of probable sarcopenia.
