Physiology and pharmacology of amyloid precursor protein

Yoonsuk Cho et al.

Summary: APP is an evolutionarily conserved transmembrane protein that serves as a precursor to amyloid-beta peptides, which are implicated in Alzheimer's disease. Studies have shown diverse pathological and physiological functions of APP and its cleavage products, but their roles are not fully understood. Current research focuses on APP processing and potential therapeutic approaches for Alzheimer's disease.

P-selectin targeted RAGE-shRNA lipoplexes alleviate atherosclerosis-associated inflammation

Cristina Ana Mocanu et al.

Summary: The newly developed Psel-lipo/shRAGE lipoplexes reduce the inflammatory processes associated with RAGE signaling and the progression of atherosclerosis in ApoE-deficient mice. Downregulation of RAGE employing these lipoplexes may represent a promising new targeted therapy to block atherosclerosis progression.

Monocytes secrete CXCL7 to promote breast cancer progression

Yi-Hsiang Wang et al.

Summary: This study identified an important immune cytokine, CXCL7, secreted by tumor infiltrating monocytes, to stimulate cancer cell migration, invasion, and metastasis, contributing to the promotion of breast cancer progression.

Serum Chemokine CXCL7 as a Potential Novel Biomarker for Obstructive Colorectal Cancer

Longhai Li et al.

Summary: The study suggests that CXCL7 may serve as a potential biomarker for both diagnosis and prognosis of OCRC patients, with higher concentrations in OCRC compared to non-OCRC patients. The sensitivity and specificity of CXCL7 in diagnosing OCRC were 86.54% and 81.87%, respectively. Additionally, high levels of CXCL7 in serum were independently associated with poor overall survival in OCRC patients.

Characterization of Novel P-Selectin Targeted Complement Inhibitors in Murine Models of Hindlimb Injury and Transplantation

Chaowen Zheng et al.

Summary: Constructs targeting P-selectin and complement inhibition demonstrate enhanced efficacy in hindlimb ischemia/reperfusion injury model, with reduced myeloid cell infiltration, improved tissue perfusion, and anti-thrombotic activity. These constructs show potential for differential application in thrombotic versus hemorrhagic conditions.

Exploring the changes of brain immune microenvironment in Alzheimer?s disease based on PANDA algorithm combined with blood brain barrier injury-related genes

Shiting Lu et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that BBB injury causing peripheral cells to enter the brain parenchyma and the imbalance of the brain immune microenvironment are closely related to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. A method based on a message passing model (PANDA) was presented to discover the correlation between internal and external brain by BBB injury-related genes and explore their regulatory mechanism in AD pathology. The biological analysis revealed that immune response pathways, inflammatory response pathways, and chemokine signaling pathways are closely related to the pathogenesis of AD.

The Alzheimer's Disease Amyloid Precursor Protein and its Neuritogenic Actions

Luan Luu et al.

Summary: The Amyloid Precursor Protein (APP) is primarily known for its role in Alzheimer's disease, but it also plays important physiological roles within the nervous system, including neurogenesis, synaptic plasticity, and neuroprotection. Understanding the normal functions of APP is essential for understanding its role in both health and Alzheimer's disease.
