A systematic review finds Core Outcome Set uptake varies widely across different areas of health

Karen L. Hughes et al.

Summary: This review aimed to assess the uptake of core outcome sets (COS) in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and systematic reviews (SRs) across different areas of health. The results showed that there is a wide variation in the uptake of COS, with barriers including lack of validated measures and involvement of key stakeholders. Further studies are needed to explore the implementation of COS in a wider range of disease categories and to identify barriers and facilitators to uptake.

Choosing important health outcomes for comparative effectiveness research: 6th annual update to a systematic review of core outcome sets for research

Elizabeth Gargon et al.

Summary: The study identified 37 COS published in 2019, with some focusing on pediatric health conditions. However, there is a need to increase children's involvement in COS development and to clarify research goals. Additionally, relevant COS have been identified for 22 of the leading causes of global disease burden.
