Environmental assessments of scales: The effect of ex-ante and ex-post data on life cycle assessment of wood torrefaction

Georgios Archimidis Tsalidis et al.

Summary: Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a powerful tool for achieving sustainability, and recent developments focus on analyzing emerging technologies which are not yet optimized. The study shows that process efficiencies improve significantly with higher technology readiness levels, with process simulations resulting in scores closer to commercial scale systems. Moreover, if LCA practitioners focus only on global warming impact, then pilot scale systems can also be a good alternative.

Modification and extension of anaerobic digestion model No.1 (ADM1) for syngas biomethanation simulation: From lab-scale to pilot-scale

Hangyu Sun et al.

Summary: The study extended the application of the ADM1 model from lab-scale to pilot-scale, successfully simulating the syngas biomethanation process. Validation from lab-scale and pilot-scale reactors showed good agreement between simulation values and experimental results, indicating the model's capability in describing and predicting the process.
