Organic-inorganic hybridization of isoreticular metal-organic framework-3 with melamine for efficiently reducing the fire risk of epoxy resin

Hafezeh Nabipour et al.

Summary: Organic-inorganic hybrid flame retardant technology can simultaneously improve the flame retardancy, smoke suppression, and mechanical properties of polymers. The novel flame retardant IR-MOF-3-Mel significantly reduces the fire risk of epoxy resin by forming a high thermal resistance char layer, as evidenced by improved LOI, UL-94 classifications, reduced heat release rate, and enhanced mechanical properties.

Phosphorus-Free Vanillin-Derived Intrinsically Flame-Retardant Epoxy Thermoset with Extremely Low Heat Release Rate and Smoke Emission

Haoxin Niu et al.

Summary: This research focuses on the development of bio-based flame-retardant epoxy thermosets to replace petroleum-based ones, using a Schiff base triazole-containing epoxy monomer. The cured bio-based epoxy thermoset displayed superior flame resistance, higher tensile strength, and better performance in flame retardancy tests compared to the petroleum-based counterpart.
