Accelerating the Convergence of Self-Consistent Field Calculations Using the Many-Body Expansion

Francisco Ballesteros et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the importance of high-quality initial guesses for self-consistent field (SCF) calculations in reducing computational costs. The many body expansion-density matrix (MBE-DM) method is proposed as an effective alternative, showing improved performance compared to traditional methods. The results indicate potential routes for cost reduction and composite techniques based on near-converged values.

The photodissociation of solvated cyclopropanone and its hydrate explored via non-adiabatic molecular dynamics using ΔSCF

Eva Vandaele et al.

Summary: The decay of cyclopropanone is a photodecomposition process that forms ethylene and carbon monoxide through excitation to the first singlet excited state. Non-adiabatic molecular dynamics simulations in both gas phase and aqueous solution reveal similar deactivation mechanisms and different photodissociation effects.

Soft Ferroelectrics Enabling High-Performance Intelligent Photo Electronics

Chanho Park et al.

Summary: Soft ferroelectrics based on organic and organic-inorganic hybrid materials are gaining popularity among researchers due to their electrically programmable and remnant polarization, leading to the development of flexible, foldable, and stretchable nonvolatile memories. These materials are seen as playing a crucial role in human-connected electronics, particularly in devices requiring precise programmable electric fields, such as tactile sensors, synaptic devices, displays, photodetectors, and solar cells, for enhanced human-machine interaction, safety, and sustainability. This review presents a comprehensive overview of recent advancements in soft ferroelectric materials and their potential applications in intelligent human-connected electronics.

Nonadiabatic couplings from a variational excited state method based on constrained DFT

Pablo Ramos et al.

Summary: Excited Constrained Density Functional Theory (XCDFT) is a variational excited state method that extends ground state DFT to compute low-lying excited states by introducing a constraint of one electron in the virtual orbitals. The study presents a theory and implementation for evaluating nonadiabatic coupling vectors (NACVs) between the first excited state computed with XCDFT and the ground state, showing that XCDFT is a viable method for nonadiabatic dynamics simulations.

Energy Landscapes for Electronic Structure

Hugh G. A. Burton et al.

Summary: By systematically analyzing the structure and connection of multiple SCF solutions, we identified a double-funnel structure in the SCF energy landscape with no high-energy local minima. Further analysis showed how the SCF energy landscape varies with different factors such as basis set, SCF potential, molecular structure, and spin state.

ΔSCF with Subsystem Density Embedding for Efficient Nonadiabatic Molecular Dynamics in Condensed-Phase Systems

Momir Malis et al.

Summary: A new approach combining subsystem density embedding with the variational delta self-consistent field has been introduced, offering extended capabilities for excited-electronic-state calculations. Application of this approach on full-atomic nonadiabatic dynamics of a solvated diimide system has shown comparable accuracy in a shorter simulation time compared to conventional methods, opening up new possibilities for efficient simulation of nonadiabatic processes in the condensed phase, particularly for liquids.

Reliable transition properties from excited-state mean-field calculations

Susannah Bourne Worster et al.

Summary: Delta SCF theory is a conceptually simple and computationally inexpensive method for finding excited states with competitive accuracy. However, a potential issue with Delta SCF transition dipoles is origin dependence induced by nonorthogonality of ground and excited states, which can be corrected by symmetric orthogonalization.
